New Colour, Old Style

In May I wrote about the red skirt which seems to pop up in all official ballroom events (Intervarsity, medal tests, socials etc). I've been meaning to make another one in a different colour and my mom beat me to it recently. Turns out the pattern is fairly straight-forward. A simple tube skirt made from Lycra and six full circles inserted at regular intervals. The only terrifying thing is making sure you sew on a straight line (not my forte).

How were the circles inserted? Were they sewn on top of the skirt and the edge was showing on the top circle or was another method employed? It is a very cute skirt and moves well, so it doesn't look like there was a lot of bulk. More details, please

The skirt is a rectangle of fabric that fits around your hips.

Cut out 6 circles about 20cm in diameter (depends on how long of a skirt you want). Cut a slit in each to the middle.

Cut 3 slits at regular intervals in the back and front of the skirt 10cm (half the circle length) from the bottom edge into the fabric.

Pin the slit in the circle to the slit in the skirt and sew with an overlock stitch (or rolled hem) in a straight line.

The circles should now "flop" over to create a rounded arch look.

You can increase the number of circles to 8 but I am fairly petite and get swamped in fabric (and lycra becomes quite heavy and will pull down more too).
